I've created this page to greet visitors to my site. It's a work in progress.
These days I'm starting this page with things from my serious side. I'm involved again with the aerospace industry. It's just as a volunteer so far, but I think that will change. Anyway, here are some of the the groups I'm somewhat active with:
I'm busy with a variety of interesting activities.
High on the list these days is St. Mark's Episcopal Church. St. Mark's is a rather unusual church on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. They not only welcome traditional Episcopalians, but also anyone interested in spiritual matters. You can even find atheists there. At least one has even been elected to the vestry (the church's governing board) and written a book about it. I help lead the church's artistic endeavors, including outreach into the larger community. St. Mark's hosts exhibitions, various kinds of concerts and even has a resident theater company in the St. Mark's Players. For more information about our work, please check out our website.
The Rutgers Club of Washington, DC provides opportunities for both pleasure and community contributions. I'm now the Webmaster for the Club site.
Another source of amusement is my hobby of science fiction art. I now do computer image manipulation. People in the larger art world are beginning to take notice of what I'm doing. The Maryland Federation of Art has a gallery located in Annapolis. In the past year they have exhibited, as a part of juried member shows, the pieces:
The gallery accepted Rockies, in 10 Billion Years for their American Landscapes show in 2007, a national level competition.
In 2008 I exhibited in Artomatic. Some people expressed a genuine liking for my work.
I've even done a bit of SF writing of sorts. A few years back I got one of those annoying e-mails from Nigeria. You know, the kind that offer you a piece of the action in exchange for your bank account. Anyway, I responded -- but not as Chuck Divine. I responded as Chuck, Vulcan Senator, Ambassador Plenipotentiary to Earth, Federation of Sentient Planets. I've put my part of the whole correspondence up as the Ambassador Chuck e-mails. Enjoy, or not, as you desire. It's not costing you anything but your time.
Still in the SF/space vein, I've now written (or to be more honest about it modified) a song! Remember Burt Rutan's Space Ship One? Of course you do. Remember Janis Joplin's "Mercedes Benz"? I hope you do. If you don't, you really did take too many drugs in the 60s!. Anyway, with a little help from Janis, I've come up with a paean to Space Ship One! It's called Rutan Spaceship! I hope you get a kick out of it!
Finally, check out Slashdot. My user name is ChuckDivine.
I'm doing a bit of consulting. Part of me wonders whether I should look for a work again in a more corporate setting. I've created two resumes:
Finally, I have even started a blog. I call it Independent Broad Minded Centrist. Take a look at it if you find that sort of thing interesting.
E-mail me at chuck dot divine at comcast dot net if you have half a mind to.
